Get Out Of Debt Yourself
Did you have a good experience after shredding your credit cards and paying them off?
**Please only answer if you have experience in topic (i.e. witnessed a family member/friend get out of debt, got yourself out of debt.)** I want to hear your positive stories and comments. I just recently shredded a whole bunch of credit cards and did not close the accounts however, I’m reaching my goal of paying off debt so I can stop being a slave to the credit cards. I want to start saving money and paying cash for emergencies and life.
The shredding doesn’t really do anything for your debt, except I guess prevent you from increasing it. Paying down the balances are key, regardless if you have the cards or not. In your case, just beware that they will send you new cards. Not because you shredded yours, but because they will expire. What you can do it when you get those, just cut them in half and keep the pieces. This will be a reminder that you still have the accounts open. If you can close some of them, do it. You can have too much credit. And you score won’t suffer a whole lot (maybe a little, temporarily). Just leave an emergency card (big limit, low APR) and keep open your oldest account (FICO score based partially on credit history and length). Hopefully this is the same card. Good luck.
